Dental Implants - "All-on-4" or "All-on-6"

The term All-on-4 refers to "all" teeth being supported "on four" dental implants, a surgical procedure of total rehabilitation for patients with badly broken down, decayed or compromised teeth due to gum disease. The four implants support a fixed prosthesis with 10 to 14 teeth and it is placed immediately, typically within 24 hours of surgery.

All-on-4 is not an invention, but rather a treatment technique that has evolved over time. The benefits of All-on-4 implants include:

  • Full-arch restoration

  • Shorter installation times than other implants

  • Prevents further bone loss

  • Decreases the need for a bone graft

What To Expect with “All-on-4”

The surgery itself takes about two hours and can be completed entirely in office under general anesthesia. Because all of the implants are placed at the same time, it is a great option for anyone that isn’t too fond of the dentist and just want to get it all done at once, or has a busy schedule and wants to get the process completed in as few appointments as possible.

Using traditional implants to replace an entire set of teeth typically requires about 12 implants, bone grafting, and at least six months of healing before your mouth is ready for overdentures. Typically, the implants and temporary dentures are installed at the same time, and permanent dentures are ready within 3-6 months.
